About our robot

MonitoraWebBot

If you saw this name in your server logs, this page explains what it does.

What it does

MonitoraWeb checks websites for their owners: whether they answer, how fast, whether the certificate and the domain are about to expire, and whether the DNS, email and SEO configuration is sane. Site owners add their sites themselves; anyone can also run a one-off check from our free tools.

What it requests

One GET of the home page (following redirects), robots.txt, and DNS queries. It does not crawl the site, does not follow links, does not submit forms and downloads at most 2 MB per page. Monitored sites are requested about once per minute; free-tool checks, once per request, with a shared cache of a few hours.

How to identify it

User-Agent: MonitoraWebBot/1.0 (+https://monitoraweb.com/bot)

Requests come from our own servers. Reverse DNS of the source address points to monitoraweb.com.

How to block it

We honour robots.txt for the free tools. To keep MonitoraWebBot out, add:

User-agent: MonitoraWebBot
Disallow: /

If the site is being monitored by its owner, blocking us will make their monitor report it as down; talk to them first.
